15th International Research School in Kyrgyzstan
July 2023
As a tutor in the
International Research School (IRS), I led five students from four countries in analyzing landscape changes around Lake Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan. Using historical maps, aerial photos, and satellite imagery, we reconstructed the region’s mid-20th-century landscape and compared it to present-day land cover.
Throughout the project, I taught students GIS skills, spatial data interpretation, and sustainable development principles. By combining geospatial analysis with field verification, they identified key drivers of change, such as climate shifts and human activity. The project not only enhanced their technical expertise but also encouraged international collaboration and a deeper understanding of environmental sustainability.
